Pierre, S.D. (Sep 8, 2022) – The South Dakota Freedom Caucus today made a public call for an emergency special legislative session to take immediate actions to protect South Dakota citizen’s lives in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last week to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“After half-a-century and 63 million innocent lives lost, today we have an opportunity to put an end to this barbaric practice and save the lives of thousands right now,” said SD Freedom Caucus Chairman Representative Aaron Aywlard, “The time to act is now and we must act swiftly.”
The SD Freedom Caucus stated in their official release today, that the caucus stands firmly in support of ending the practice of abortion for convenience statewide.
Vice Chair Representative Tony Randolph said the issue is critical for the SD Freedom Caucus, stating “If you don’t get the right to life right, you won’t get any other rights right.”
Many opposed to the overturning of Roe v. Wade have claimed that this is a major step back for women’s rights in America, which Secretary and Treasurer of the SD Freedom Caucus Representative Tina Mulally strongly disagreed with. Mulally said in response, “The pro-life movement is the pro-women movement, because it tells women that you do have the inner-ward strength of soul to embrace motherhood to the child you’re already a mother to, not that you’re a victim.”
The South Dakota Freedom Caucus stated in their release today that they will continue to push for this emergency session calling upon Governor Noem to do so immediately. The caucus said that they expect the Governor to support their call and efforts to end this practice immediately.
